As popular as ever!

Ah, Coralie's entry reminds me that it's been a while since I last posted. Well, alright, here's something: today in Le Monde, we find an article called Sur la Côte d'Azur, des tarifs prohibitifs font fuir la clientèle (extortionate prices drive tourists off Riviera), and which is not much than slander!

Le Monde confirms that unfortunately, the French press is run (and worse, written) in Paris. I won't go into details to explain why the article is wrong on many accounts. Just the title is a gross generalisation of the fact that a few ruthless businesses overprice. Well, of course some do. This might be the Riviera but it's not Fairy-land (although you'll agree it's a close as one can find). But does Le Monde write about Paris and the generalised rip-off that's inflicted on tourists there? Never!

To be fair, the article ends on a not-so-negative note: the Riviera beaches are as popular as they were last year. Yes, tourists aren't as foolish as they seem to be described in the article -- which, by the way fails to describe how it's possible that the turnout on beaches can possibly be the same as last year if fewer people go on holiday on the Riviera? It's no news that tourists know what's best, and what's best in the summer is the sunny, warm, clean, sandy, quiet beaches you find here.
