Shops

Things have changed a lot around here. Some of them for the best. Take shops for instance: in most villages and towns around here, convenience stores are progressively replaced by art galleries, restaurants and real-estate agents. I say: good! Who needs a baker or a grocer when there's the biggest grossing supermaket in France just a few miles down the road? You don't have a car? Take your meals at that new restaurant until you buy one. (You can't really do without a car here, anyway.) Antiquaires and galleries provide much more pleasure to the eye than shabby old laundrettes or newsagents. And you should see the faces of people as they stroll past the real-estate agent windows, dreaming of the day they'll be able to spend 5 million Euros for a house.
